Last weekend we've had the first SVS IPSC practical shooting championships of 2009 on the ranges of the gunclub Suriname at Marina Durga. You may download a Dutch version of the report by clicking here. It's been exactly two weeks after our last tournament: the End of the year 2008 Championships.

Most interesting in this first match of the year was a stage by Rabien Chotkan to demonstrate how easy it could be to break the "180" rule during a course of fire. It was by no means a stage to generate DQs, merely to stress the importance of safe gun handling.

Just in a blink of an eye we've had the last match of the year 2008. Looking back, it was a very prosperous year for gunclub Suriname. We've started the year slow without even shooting one SOTM match. We've had some problems with equipment and some minor nuisances brought about by some sad individuals. But in the end, we've overcome every obstacle that came in our way and we have been to 3 international matches, which we've participated in very succesfully and made a lot of friends in the region. It's been raining medals this year. Markieboy made history by winning the first ever President's medal for Suriname in Aruba. If you think about it, it was the lack of local competition and interest that made us look to competition in the region. Maybe it was meant to be.

Christmas is a time of joy for everyone. It's also a busy time for most of us. So I do hope you find the time to enjoy this time of year. If you're reading this you're probably bored as hell and enjoying the joy it's bringing. LOL.

Hi people, I do apologise for the delay. I know the Claybusters must've been eagerly waiting to read the report, but I've been too busy with work and the coming wedding lately.. yada yada yada. Anyway, as you may know, the Claybusters were at it again on December 8th 2008.

In Standard, Stef got silver, Mark, who had some bad luck on his last stages, managed to keep in medal position and claimed a bronze.

We’re on the bus to the range at 7.00, an hours drive away. It’s early, so there’s still quite an impressive amount of mountain fog around.
The range is at the Punto de Mira hunting and shooting club, which caters to all shooting sports, plus a pool, restaurant, etc, is vast. Distances between stages are up to 300m. The stages are clean, and very nicely executed. While we expected a “hoser” match on the basis of the stage diagrams, some stages included 25m plates, and difficult shooting positions.

Cali, to me, looks and feels like Belem in Brazil, but surrounded by mountains.
